What Can be Done to Permanently Eradicate Unemployment and Poverty From Nigeria?

Do you think it’s possible for unemployment and poverty to be completely effaced out from Nigeria? Some may think that it’s only God that can do that. How can permanent poverty eradication be possible? They wonder. A number of government regimes have tried, and poverty is even worse, so who would solve the problem? What would the person use to eradicate poverty? They ask. However, be assured that humans through reformation of their school system had conquered severe cases of these problems elsewhere, and we can conquer ours.

If one or more of these thoughts are going on in your mind, well, why not give yourself benefit of the doubt? Read this article, and even though you disagree with the message, what stops you from commenting on how baseless the idea is? By commenting, people would see your viewpoint and some would agree with you. I will also compliment your idea even if I may not agree with your position.

Let’s start by thinking from the perspective of Nigerians who would simply disagree that it is possible for unemployment and poverty to be eradicated here in Nigeria. Those in disagreement do agree that Nigeria’s title in the comity of other nations is the poverty capital of the world. India used to be the poverty capital, but now 44 Indian citizens are being lifted from poverty every minute.

Do a little maths, if it took you 20 minutes to read this post all through, 44 multiplied by 20 will give you 880 people. This means that 880 persons in India are no longer poor within the timeframe you took reading this post. Now Nigeria, on the other hand, is experiencing 6 individuals dwindling into poverty every minute. Also, do the maths, assume it took you 20 minutes to read this post all through, 20 multiplied by 6 will give you 120 people. This also means that 120 people in Nigeria would become poor within the timeframe you took to read this post. Scary? Then think about how many people would be poor in a year, in two years, and on.

Today, over 100 million Nigerians are poor, and over 85 million are extremely poor. Those in disagreement agree that no job, no food, and no food, means hungry and starvation and poverty. Then to solve poverty, hunger, and starvation, jobs must be created.

Then what does it take for jobs to be created? The greatest pre-requisites for job creation are the availabilities of ideas, skills, and knowledge. High standard education holds the keys to ideas, knowledge, and skills dispensation.

I at a time did not know that high standard school education system has the magic power to completely eradicate poverty and hunger. Book writing had brought me into this knowledge, and for our nation, Nigeria, to move away from the current status of being the poverty capital of the world, it must first create opportunities for high standard school education.

The international communities have suggested this idea of developing the human capital capacity to the government through constant criticism. Strong human capital development stems from sound school education, and every nation that is on the high developmental path also have a high standard school system.

The nation of India reformulated its academic system to be highly efficient, then, the unbelievable happened. China also, a once world poverty capital, restructured its academic system then, in less than four decades it becomes a world power.

Nigeria as a nation has more than enough mineral and human resources to be a world power, but the only and serious barrier is the decayed education system in existence, and this has to change. The decadence in our education system is the reason why we do not have enough jobs. Graduates are not well equipped with adequate problem-solving skills to provide jobs.

To successfully recreate and reform the nation into a high-technology-forward-thinking nation, we have to work hard to create high-quality school education. As pointed out earlier, other nations had done the right thing and they are moving forward, we should mimic them and conquer unemployment and poverty this decade if possible.
